YOUR PERSONAL OASIS: HOW TO USE NATURAL ELEMENTS IN YOUR HOME TO INCREASE HAPPINESS AND WELL-BEING
Please join me on a journey through this dreamy penthouse design that overlooks the ocean and uses natural elements of water, air, and light to create a harmonious space for the mind, body, and soul; providing a haven to escape the rigors of your professional life. IN THE END I’ll leave you with DIRECT, EASY TO FOLLOW STEPS so that you TOO CAN design your own version of paradise.
Walking into a vacation home or beachside resort INSTANTLY provides a feeling of peace. All worries about work or relationships just melt away as you gaze upon the light, airy, feel of the space and step onto the balcony to breathe in the fresh, breezy air overlooking the ocean. And for a moment, the constant chatter inside your head is silent because you’re left speechless. Now imagine how good it would feel to create a space that gives you that feeling every time you walk through the doors of your personal oasis.
I absolutely LOVE working with natural elements in design because they bring so much peace, maximize happiness and well-being, connect you with nature, and have the ability to transform even the most stressful days into calm, soul-reviving evenings. What more could you ask for?
What I love about this view is how the interior is very light and airy, but as soon as you step onto the patio you transition into a luxurious lounging area, with black and wood daybeds, and glossy geometric side tables. The piano off in the corner gives a grand, sophisticated look, adding class and style to the modern feel.
Everything about this design is focused on opening up the house to nature. The furniture and details in this space are beautiful and natural, demanding respect; however, the goal is not for the design choices in this house to steal the show. When you’re overlooking the most incredible view of the endless ocean, the home design should complement that vista rather than detract from it. Hence, the reason you donʼt see a flat-panel TV within the space. The natural elements of wood in the wall paneling, cabinetry, shelving, plants, and dining table bring warmth and comfort into the area. The natural elements of water from the rippling view of the aqua-blue ocean are enhanced by allowing as much airiness and salty breeze into the space as possible with the floor-to-ceiling sliding doors that extend from one end of the space to the other. Complementing the warm and comforting wood, the ever-flowing salty ocean, and the fresh, cool, breezy air are the modern/contemporary designs of this white couch, luxurious white dining chairs, and the blue barstools. To tie the room together, the stunning asymmetrical chandelier above the dining table serves as a focal point that’s both interesting and beautiful.
The bedroom uses a minimalist approach that brings a strong sense of serenity, calmness, and relaxation, while connecting you to some of the universe’s greatest assets. The breeze drifting in from the floor-to-ceiling sliding doors that are overlooking the ocean, with the constant flow of the waves crashing beneath; the dazzling sunset; and a glass of wine, whiskey, or ice-cold beer, create the perfect environment to do as you please. Whatever that looks like for you, this is a space that can be as private as you want, or as playful and entertaining as you choose.
This bathroom is a magical place to relax and rejuvenate before you begin or end each day. Connecting your body to water and heat can transport your mind and soul to serenity and calmness. The wood below your feet, the earthiness of the plant, and the view of the impeccable ocean beyond you will create a unique experience that will ground you, clear your mind, and prepare you to take on the world. There’s no better way to complete your bathroom sanctuary than with natural materials.
When looking at photos of this beautiful space, it’s easy to fall in love with the design. However, when a design of this caliber is being created, most – if not all – of the furniture has been custom-made for the space. So to save you time, I’ve searched HIGH and LOW for the absolute best products that are available to buy, and are consistent with the design aesthetic shown.
